Initially I started off with no teammates and worked on the game alone so my tactic was to create and ideate the game, building from research and thinking of initial ideas. I then slowly began to build on these ideas and expand them, considering all the components of what makes a game and documenting the basics for each topic. As I formed stronger ideas, I had a solid base of a game where I could them branch off into the different elements and areas and develop them further.
In phase 4, Reena joined my team. Although we are both more catered to the art side of games, I was already prepared to make the whole game myself so having her join meant that she could handle the art side whilst I could focus on the other aspects. At this point, I already had a good foundation for each aspect of the game so I went through the game with her and asked what roles she would like to have. She said that she would like to do anything to do with art but would be open to expanding her skills in other areas. The game I had so far was mainly puzzles meaning that it would be rather short and condensed so to expand it I had the thought of creating cutscenes. These would extend the play time whilst also creating a deeper connection between player and the game as they could explore the lore of each character. We had a discussion on what we will each contribute to the game throughout the year and decided on the following:
Reena:
These are the initial tasks we decided on but throughout the next semester we will keep constant communication on how they are going and if one of us need help or finish our tasks quicker than planned then we will adapt to make sure everything is done on time and the work load is shared equally. We also both decided to do as much research as we could this semester as I feel it doesn't just help improve and boost your ideas in your documented work but it inspires your when thinking and creating. Just having all the research in your head will subconsciously influence your ideas as you already have sources that will spark creativity and further your artistry.
